I am fascinated by writing across my domains right now. I have several other lesser domains, but my primary ones kinlane.com, apievangelist.com, and naftiko.io, are what have my full attention in this moment of storytelling. I love writing. I love finding and telling stories. It really is the only thing that matters to me in all of this craziness we are doing online today. Chasing stories is what gets me up and keeps me going each day, and the rest is just noise from my perspective.
kinlane.com and alternate.kinlane.com is the purest domain for me. It is where I am 100% me. I tell whatever stories come to mind over the week, and I write in any way that makes for the fictional or non-fictional story I am trying to tell. Sometimes it is straight from my brain and other times it is based upon what I am reading and seeing in the world. All of this is wrapped up for me each Sunday in a personal newsletter that I publish and send to a mix of friends, family, and acquaintances.
apievangelist.com is the next level domain, where I still work hard to find and tell meaningful stories. I write all of my stories, and edit all of my own work. I do not use artificial intelligence to write any of the API Evangelist stories. I will use artificial intelligence to conduct research, craft product descriptions, and other items. The API Evangelist persona is not Kin Lane, but it is a reflection of what matters to me when it comes to the Internet technology that has become ubiquitous in our lives.
naftiko.io is a real grown-up business domain, where I seeking and telling the stories that matter to the people I am building a product for. Here I do use AI to write some of the stories. I will take conversations that I have and produce outlines which I feed to Claude to write stories. I also use Claude to produce the artifacts I use in my storytelling. The roots of the stories are always based upon my narrative outline, but take advantage of AI to generalize my voice for a corporate audience.
algorotoscope.work is worth an honorable mention here, because it is the machine learning models I use to produce the images I use across kinlane.com, alternate.kinlane.com, and apievangelist.com. This is another dimension to my storytelling that uses technology to reflect back what I am seeing in the cracks of the APIs that are powering our world. These stories will rarely make sense to anyone but me, but anyone wanting to learn more can always trace back to the website and models I use.
I intentionally do not use AI in my storytelling on kinlane.com. It would be counterproductive to the healing that occurs via my storytelling there. I need to do this work to perpetually render myself whole each week as I make myself through this world. Similarly, on apievangelist.com, the work is to important to completely hand over to AI. I need to sift through the digital zeroes and ones to understand. To make sense of the noise. To understand what truly is signal. Without it my work is rendered meaningless, but AI is rapidly consuming this workspace.
This leaves me within the naftiko.io using AI to write stories, generate artifacts and scripts. This is as close as I will come to the machine. I refuse to lose myself within the machine. I’ll get close enough tot he machine to get burned regularly, but not enough to never be able to find my way out. I do this to understand what others are experiencing and how they see the world. This contrast within the naftiko.io domain helps me think deeply about the stories I craft on apievangelist.com and kinlane.com, and how I see and understand how the machine operates.
