Information Curation with My Google Reader

I have a central keyword list that I use as a reference on a daily basis. I track these keywords across many tools from Google Reader, Google Webmaster, Google Analytics, and Wordpress.

These keywords help me identify important topics that I then follow, learn about and develop content around.

Within my Google Reader I tag content in real-time using my central keyword list.

I recently started sharing these keywords as public RSS feeds.

I'm experimenting with different ways of syndicating this content, and sharing these curated feeds with others.

I have setup syndication "end points" for the following keywords:
  • API - Anything dealing with APIs and Web Services.
  • Cloud Computing - Important topics within the areas of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Data - Data related topics with a focus on NoSQL and Open Data.
  • HTML 5 - Important posts and learning resources for HTML 5.
  • Internet - A general category of posts dealing with broadband, politics, government, net neutrality, networking, data centers, and general Internet issues.
  • Media - Posts related to new media, journalism, blogging, big data and digital publishing.
  • Mobile - Anything in the mobile phone realm.
  • Print - A general catch all cateogry for print, publishing, self-publishing and on demand publishing.
  • PHP - Posts relevant to my primary programming language PHP.
  • JavaScript - Posts and resources specific to JavaScript.
  • JQuery - More specific JavaScript posts dealing just with the JQuery library.
  • Open Source - Posts in the important category of open source, open standards, and technologies.
These words represent the most important key words and phrases in my daily life. There are plenty more, but these are the top of the list. These keywords drive what I read and curate, and what people search for on the Internet and find my web sites.

The posts published to these "end points" represent blog posts and articles I've reading from hundreds of sources and felt they were relevant enough to tag in my Google Reader.

These are topics I pay attention to, and stay educated on. These end points give me a way of sharing, syndicating, and tracking my information curation that occurs daily in my Google Reader.
